In 2003 IOIOI had the chance to see a film by Kyoshi Kurosawa - Bright Future - that really shocked her. She started to wonder obsessively about Ike vs Matte film's theme (what is the right way towards the future?) and she tried to write something about that. She played each instrument by herself and she recorded all the stuff through the microphone of her laptop. She composes one-shot songs (a kind of low-fi impro and brico pop songs!), she doesn't care too much about sounds, shapes and genres.
The future is a game, you can just follow the future, like a jellyfish, you can't choose anything: you can just play with it as a baby does. Children build their future by imagination, projecting the present - the now and here - into something that is not now and not here. A child can create a great magic story by using everything is nearly there, nevermind the materials!
IOIOI would like to write music as a baby could do, she either doesn't know a real language! She just wants to let everything frer, something passes through you, avoiding your strong control please, just let it go.
Furthermore, Bright Future is a story divided into chapters, each song tells about a "passage" of time going.
So probably the future is a very temporary shape that comes from water and that is going to melt into water. This is what IOIOI's music would like to express.
